Glossary of Industry Terms

Degaussing: - This is also known as bulk erasing, this permanently removes all data, formatting and control track information from tapes, hard drives and diskettes.  A strong focused magnetic field envelopes the media changing the magnetic properties of the entire data area in seconds.  Degaussing erases working and non-working media ensuring proper data security before re-use or disposal. 

Asset: - This can refer to a single CRT, PRINTER, CPU, and FAX. A ‘Full Asset’ refers to A CRT, MONITOR & KEYBOARD

De-tag: - This process refers to the removal of all client/ 3rd party label/markers effectively removing the liability of when change of ownership occurs.

Rollout: - Large scale expertly managed IT installations of assets.

Procurement: - This is the acquisition of goods and/or services at the best possible total cost of ownership, in the right quantity and quality, at the right time, in the right place for the direct benefit or use of clients generally via a contract or ad hoc basis.

WEEE: - The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive came into force in January2007 and aims to both reduce the amount of WEEE being produced and encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it. The WEEE Directive also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment.

SME: - Small and medium enterprises or SMEs, also called small and medium-sized enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses, are companies whose headcount or turnover falls below certain limits.

IT Media: - IT media can refer to data/information held on storage devices

EOL Recycler: - End of Life recyclers  breakdown redundant systems in to the raw materials from which they came i.e. glass, plastics, aluminium, gold…etc
